Weekend Links

One of the best parts of summer: enjoying delicious, fresh fruit!

Hello! It's Friday, it's a beautiful sunny day, and I have some links to share with you all. I hope your week has been a good one. Mine has been busy, but great. Feeling a little sick today, actually. I'm blaming it on the super spicy Thai food we ate last night. I'm not keeling over, but my stomach just isn't feeling quite right. Ugh. But the show must go on, so when Henry wakes up from his nap we are heading out to do some food shopping and run a few errands. Tomorrow my sweet Shirley comes in for a visit and we have a fun night planned with a few of my girlfriends up here. I'm looking forward to it!

Edit: now it's Friday night and I just got around to finishing this up! It's been a good day. Feeling better and I had a great, productive night. For the past few evenings I've had zero motivation to get anything done around the house but luckily tonight I got back in the groove. Thank you 90s country music for helping me out with that. Garth, Shania and The Dixie Chicks to be specific.

Sending you happy weekend wishes!

Weekend Links/Madewell Event

swim class at the Y Flashback Friday: exactly one year ago- Henry's first swimming class!

Happy Friday! This week has been so much fun. We had house guests for a few days and got to enjoy some delicious food with great company, and I'm still on cloud 9 from having so much hang out time. This weekend should be great too, full of family time and The Swellers show on Sunday.

I also wanted to take a moment and tell you guys how much we are loving our Mame candles. The girls sent Hank and I a couple to try out and we've really been enjoying them. Right now I have the Farmer's Market scent burning in our kitchen. They're soy candles, so they burn cleaner and last longer, which is always a plus. I am not usually a candle person but these scents are so, so great and don't smell "fake" at all- they're really lovely. And better yet, they are made locally in Arizona.

And speaking of Arizona, if you are in the valley, I'd love for you to stop by and say hello next Tuesday, at a little Madewell event I'm hosting at Scottsdale Fashion Square. I'm pretty flattered they would ask me to do something like this- I'm definitely not the most fashionable person out there, but I am looking forward to picking out some of my favorite looks and hopefully meeting some readers, too! There will be delicious sweets and really great clothes at a discount for any of you who want to shop, but I would really love to meet you either way! Let me know if you're planning on stopping by- I think it's going to be a really fun evening and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I hope your week has been a good one too. xo

birthday weekend This photo was taken just about one year ago! Henry looks so, so small.

Happy weekend! Yesterday we had a playdate at our house (4 toddlers are quite the wild bunch!) and then had a fun double date with our friends and our kiddos at one of our favorite Mexican spots. I stayed up way too late watching Parenthood while Hank had band practice/a night out with his friends, so this morning I was exhausted but still had a great time out and about. We went on a long walk and did the Farmer's Market with Veronica and Max, I have a hair appointment in thirty minutes (lighter? shorter? maybe!), we have some bike riding planned for tonight, and then tomorrow we'll be at a block party downtown to benefit the Whiskey Row fires. Busy, busy. But it's a good kind of busy!

Tomorrow morning I'll be posting a recipe that Henry (and we) absolutely love, so keep your eyes peeled. Have a great Saturday!

Henry and his buddy Max yesterday morning, playing at the park.

This has been the best week full of so many friends and so much good food! And I'm just as excited for this weekend. Last night Hank, Henry and I grabbed Mexican food downtown, and then my cousin arrived from Tucson to run in the Whiskey Row Marathon this morning. Earlier today we got to cheer him on and admire all of the amazing, strong people crossing the finish line.

I hope you have a great weekend planned, too!

p.s. I wanted to thank all of you who gave such thoughtful responses to the Marie Claire link I shared via this post. It was so fascinating to be able to see what all of you thought- thank you!

Five Bamboo sent me a couple items from their shop and although they are a sponsor of mine this month this is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to take a minute want all of you to know how much I LOVE the pants and hoodie they sent over. I'm super picky about my workout clothing and the pants have been perfect for not just regular old cardio but for hot yoga too. For those of you who exercise regularly you know how hard it is to find great gear, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I love them. They're definitely my new go-to workout pants (and hoodie when it gets cooler in the fall). And even better? Their products are made from sustainable bamboo and Five Bamboo strives to have a softer impact on the Earth. Awesome, right? ***Receive 20% off with code SWEETBAMBOO***

Weekend Links

May Day picnic
I can't believe this was a year ago! Henry was so tiny.

Another Friday, another set of links, right? And this is going to sound weird, but I'm going to come right out and say it- I am typing this right now and hearing the Gossip Girl voice in my head. Not even kidding. I'm alllllmost caught up and right at the end of the current season and I'm SO INTO it. No spoilers but I'm right after episode 100 and I just watched three episodes in a row...hence hearing this blog read aloud in the GG voice. Call me crazy, I don't mind.

In other non-television news this week has been a good one. Nothing too notable, just very busy and full of hot yoga which makes me immeasurably happy. And luckily this weekend will be full of family and some pool time. I'm looking forward to seeing the lot where my sister and her husband are building their new house too- I'm so excited for them! I'm going to try to remember to take my camera out and about all weekend so hopefully on Sunday I'll have some fun photos to share. So until then.

oh and p.s., I thought I should tell you all, since I mentioned it in my last links post, that the morning after sharing my "ugh, I hate that my mouth is still swollen and I'm in post-wisdom teeth hell" rant, all pain subsided! It was a wisdom tooth (or lack of) miracle. Hallelujah!

----------

If you read one thing on this list, read this article, and then tell me what you think. Here's the first line: "TO Elisabeth Badinter, educated women who become stay-at-home moms have lost their minds." There's so much to say about this, but I'm curious to hear what you all think too. Thanks to Jillian for emailing it to me.

We enjoyed the most perfect spring day yesterday! Sunshine, iced tea, and watching big bulldozers. ha.

Happy weekend! This one is going to be a good one because tomorrow Sarah arrives for a sleepover, then Sunday we have a birthday party and some other fun things planned. I actually had a hair appointment this evening to take care of these crazy blonde roots (did you know I was a natural blonde?) but my adorable hair stylist is currently going into labor! So, no hair appointment tonight...but for good reason. Instead we picked up some Thai food and then I caught up on some Gossip Girl while Hank met up with some friends for coffee and pool. It's been a great Friday.

I have a shorter than usual list this week, but all of these links are wonderful. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Weekend Links!

Untitled
coming up on 8 years together with this guy <3

So even though Sunday is winding down I think it's still okay to call these Weekend Links, right? It's been a good, productive weekend which is just what we've needed and we (okay, Hank!) have checked off so many things on our around-the-house to-do list. That always feel so good. We finally hung our new bedroom curtains we've had in the box for months and those alone changed the entire feel of the room. I'm so happy with how it turned out.

I hope you had a great weekend too. I have some fun things planned on the blog this week, and in the meantime, here are some links to check out. Enjoy!

Weekend links, on a Monday

saturday morning hangout
an old photo of Madeline and me taken in 2008- look how tiny she was!

So my wisdom teeth are officially out, thank goodness. I got them out Friday morning and what was supposed to have been a 45 minute surgery turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal due to my "stubborn roots" or something- it's hard to remember since I was still foggy from being put under.  To be honest, it was much worse than I anticipated and the past couple of days have been more uncomfortable than even my c-section recovery, however crazy that may sound. But on the bright side, I keep focusing on the fact that they're out and now, the worst is over! I had an appointment today with my oral surgeon to check on healing, and he assured me my numb chin and lower lip should return to normal soon, and my mouth is looking a-okay. Now I'm just focusing on being extra careful to avoid those dreaded dry sockets. I'm so thankful for my parents who came up Friday to stay with us, taking me to my appointment on Friday while Hank worked and helped to entertain Henry all weekend.  I was sad to miss all the fun since I was stuck in bed, but I know we'll have another soon when I'm feeling 100%.

While recovering the past couple of days I've been watching a few different things for the first time- Gossip Girl and Gilmore Girls (love both of them!), and I also watched two movies- My Week with Marilyn and Young Adult. And after so much "relaxation" all I want is a busy day filled with errands, a trip to Target, a big sandwich, no mouth pain, and my nice, unswollen cheeks back. ;)

Whatever you did this past weekend I hope you had a great time. I figured I would share some links today, even though it's Monday. Enjoy!

Hollywood Sign

Hello, hello! I wanted to take a minute and thank all of you who left such nice comments on Wednesday's post. My scan and x-rays went fine - I don't know why I get so nervous for medical things, but here I am at almost-30, shaking in my boots to get a needle in my arm.  It is scary though when you go to the doctor and they say you need to get these serious things done immediately...it's so easy for my mind to run wild. Anyway, besides the strange injection they gave me for the CT that made me feel like I had peed my pants, the appointment was relatively simple. My results came back later that day, and although there was nothing in my throat (yay!) my thyroid is enlarged so I go in Monday for more testing. The doctor gave me the go-ahead for my LA trip though, and I am so thankful. Hoping some sea-air and relaxation will do me well.

So, that's what's going on in my neck of the woods. Get it? Neck of the woods? HA. ;) Anywaaay, I am flying out today at noon and will be back on Sunday or Monday to share all about my little adventure. In the meantime, here are some links to check out. Enjoy!

Flashback Friday! Here's Hank and me way back in 2005 (or maybe 2006?). We look so young!

Happy Friday! Well, right now it's actually Wednesday night but I am scheduling this post because I am in San Francisco as you read this. Again? Yes, again. This time it's a super quick trip full of blog-business and I'll be home on Saturday! And I hope whatever you find yourself doing, you have a fun weekend planned too. As for us, once I get back we'll be enjoying spending time with my Aunt Ellen, who is visiting from Vermont. I've written about her quite a bit in this space but I LOVE her and have always had a very special connection with her over the years. I'm just so excited she's going to be in Arizona.

I'm off, and sending you happy wishes for a great weekend.

Happy Saturday! Today is the most beautiful day and it's starting to feel a little like spring. It's one of those weekend where we don't have many plans, besides planning on not having any. I'm looking forward to a lot of relaxing, a trip to Target, and maybe some frozen yogurt. Tomorrow we will be celebrating my Dad's birthday and I'm excited for him to enjoy a day just for him. We're having a family barbeque, some park time, and ice cream cake, of course.

I'll be back later this weekend with a fun "tagged" post. Wishing you all a happy day!

enjoying a lazy morning with Henry - we put a huge blanket on the living room floor and got nice and cozy

Heeey weekend! I already wrote about my big plans yesterday in my Currently post, but tonight I'm getting tattooed and I'm really excited. And dreading it...but more so excited. My friend Natalie is going to come hang out too, so that makes it even better. Thank you Nat! It's kind of like a fun girl date without our kiddos, except I'll be getting continuously poked by a needle for a few hours. Luckily I'm just getting the top of my thigh tattooed so it won't be too horrible.

In other news, Henry's development is skyrocketing and he is changing every single day. He is SUCH a ham and the biggest chatterbox ever. He's basically running all over the house and getting into everything. It's pretty insane. On the shopping list for this weekend? Baby gates! I'm finishing up a Henry post so I'll talk more about all of this next week, and include some videos too.

Anyway, here are some links for you to check out. Happy weekend!

my favorite song right now. so sweet.

It's Friday night and I'm enjoying a super quiet night in at my parents'.  Everyone is asleep, Hank's watching basketball, and I'm sitting here next to him typing away. It's been a great week and I actually am attributing a lot of it to not eating sugar! Crazy, right? I actually feel so much different- less irritable, moody and overall I just feel like this particular "edge" I sometimes carry around is gone. Feeling good. I will say that tonight there was a particular Trader Joe's dark chocolate with caramel and sea salt bar (so, so delicious) calling my name...but I stayed strong and remembered the reason I'm doing this. It's a reward for my body, not a punishment, and I need to look at it in that light so I can stay motivated when the allure of nighttime treats is so strong.  I got past it though and instead went for a walk with Hank and I'm feeling happy with my choice.

Tomorrow night Hank and I have a fun date night planned and I'm so excited to try out a new restaurant! I'll of course share more about that on Sunday. In the meantime though, here are some links. xoxo
